Attorney Mike
Mullis lived much of his life in Valdosta, Georgia where he owned
and operated a bookstore prior to law school. He graduated with
honors with a BA degree in history from Valdosta State University in
1987, scored in the 95th percentile on the Law School Admission
Test, and received a scholarship to the University of Georgia School
of Law in Athens. During his last year in law school, Mr. Mullis
participated in the Defender's Clinic at the School of Law's Legal
Aid and Defender Society.
After graduating from Law
School, Mr. Mullis worked as a criminal defense lawyer at the University of
Georgia Legal Aid Office where he successfully defended many high
profile cases including murder, rape, aggravated assault, and felony
drug cases.
In 1992, Mr. Mullis moved home
to Valdosta where he continued criminal defense. At the beginning of
1994, Mr. Mullis received a call from William C. "Bubba" Head of
Atlanta. Mr. Head
literally wrote the book on DUI defense in Georgia. He has defended
or consulted on thousands of DUI cases and is one of the nation's
foremost authorities on the subject. Mr. Head asked Mr. Mullis to
move to Atlanta to help him with his expanding DUI practice.
After attending several
advanced training courses sponsored by Mr. Head, Mr. Mullis began
his specialization in DUI cases. In 1995, the law firm of Head,
Mullis, Thomas & Webb was formed with the express purpose of
defending Driving Under the Influence cases. This was the largest
firm of its type in Atlanta.
After five years, Mr. Mullis
opened his own practice. He now defends those charged with murder
and other serious violent felonies including armed robbery as well
as drug, theft and assault cases. He also continues to defend those
charged with Driving Under the Influence, homicide by vehicle, and
other alcohol related offenses. His reputation in that area of
specialization has earned him the name of the
DUI Guy.
Mr. Mullis has defended or
consulted on hundreds of cases and has received advanced training on
scientific evidence and detection of those driving under the
influence (he has given expert trial testimony on standardized field
sobriety testing on several occasions). He is a founding member of
the National College for DUI Defense conducted at Harvard University
Law School, and has spoken at seminars for private attorneys as well
as judges. Mr. Mullis and his associates defend criminal cases all
over the State of Georgia.
